BRADLEY GARDNER, MD
BOARD CERTIFIED OPHTHALMOLOGIST & CORNEAL SPECIALIST
Bradley Gardner, MD, is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist and Director of the Idaho Eye and Laser Center. Dr. Gardner specializes in various types of refractive surgery, including LASIK, PRK, and ICL implants. He also performs cataract surgery, corneal transplants, and many other surgeries to treat corneal disease. As Director of the Idaho Eye and Laser Center, he is passionate about treating eye diseases using the current advanced medical and surgical interventions.
Dr. Gardner began his formal medical education at the University of California, Irvine, where he graduated at the top of his class with Alpha Omega Alpha Honors. He went on to perform his internship in Internal Medicine at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. He then performed his residency at the prestigious Jules Stein Eye Institute, UCLA. There he was elected as Chief Resident and received the Residency Research Award in Excimer Laser technology. This qualified him to be selected for a Fellowship in Corneal and Refractive Surgery at Louisiana State University, where the first excimer laser procedure in the world was performed on a sighted eye. He also participated in the FDA investigational trials on the excimer laser. He has published papers and written chapters on laser vision correction and diseases of the cornea.
Dr. Gardner shares 5 beautiful children with his wife, Tammy. He enjoys spending time with his family and doing fun activities including skiing, biking, and travelling.
RICHARD P. CANNON, MD
BOARD CERTIFIED OPHTHALMOLOGIST & CATARACT SURGEON
Dr. Richard Cannon is a Board-Certified General Ophthalmologist providing cataract and oculoplastic surgeries along with comprehensive medical eye care. He is a vital asset to the Idaho Eye and Laser Center team. His specialties include cataract and lens implants, glaucoma treatment, pterygium excisions, repairing eyelid deformities, eyelid carcinomas, pediatric strabismus surgery, and repair of the nasolacrimal duct system.
Dr. Cannon started his medical training at Brigham Young University. He received his medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, he then went on to his residency training at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Cannon is committed to continuing his education. He is an active member of various professional organizations including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He has also participated in various service projects, locally and internationally, to improve and preserve eyesight. He continues to share his expertise by lecturing at ophthalmological and optometric seminars.
An Idaho native, Dr. Cannon was happy to return after eight years of medical and surgery training in Texas and Colorado. He enjoys his patients and regularly expresses how much he loves the challenging and rewarding specialty that is ophthalmology. He is a loving husband and family man. He truly enjoys the Idaho outdoors. He is a motorbike enthusiast and enjoys camping and backpacking.
BRADLEY HANSEN, MD
BOARD CERTIFIED GLAUCOMA SPECIALIST & CATARACT SURGEON
Dr. Bradley A. Hansen was born and raised in Rexburg, Idaho. He grew up in a musical household and participated in honor orchestras throughout high school and eventually attended Brigham Young University-Idaho on academic and violin scholarships.
During his undergraduate studies, Dr. Hansen discovered a love for the sciences and graduated with honors with a major in Biology and a double minor in Chemistry and Music. He was selected to participate in the WWAMI Medical Program and received his medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine.
Following graduation from medical school, he completed internship training at the Sacred Heart Medical Center Transitional Residency in Spokane, Washington. He then moved on to complete his residency in ophthalmology at the New England Eye Center, associated with Tufts University School of Medicine, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was selected to stay in Boston for an additional year of training where he completed a Fellowship in Glaucoma and Complex Cataract Surgery working with internationally recognized clinicians such as Cynthia Mattox, MD (previous president of the American Glaucoma Society) and Bradford Shingleton (previous president of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery).
During Fellowship, he held joint clinical and surgical privileges at the New England Eye Center (Tufts University), Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston (premier tertiary referral practice in Boston), and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (Harvard University). During his training, Dr. Hansen participated in multiple areas of research with several scientific publications including a book chapter on ocular inflammation. He is currently an adjunct professor of ophthalmology at the University of Utah’s Moran Eye Center and participates in volunteer resident and fellow surgical training for their Global Outreach Program. He has participated in underserved and global ophthalmic surgery at the Navajo Indian reservation and in multiple countries including Micronesia, Trinidad, and Tanzania. He is an active member of various professional organizations including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the American Glaucoma Society. He has a wonderful and supportive wife and four children. They enjoy spending time together doing anything outdoors including hiking, fishing, camping, and rock climbing. Dr. Hansen still plays the violin and enjoys watching and participating in nearly all sports, particularly tennis and snow skiing.
ERIC ROMRIELL, D.O.
BOARD CERTIFIED OPHTHALMOGIST & RETINAL SPECIALIST
Dr. Eric Romriell was born and raised in our local state of Idaho. After completing a mission from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and serving in the U.S Army, he graduated from the University Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kansas City, as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
He then fulfilled his internship at Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Following the completion of his internship, he proceeded to complete his Ophthalmology Residency at Kettering/Grandview Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He then finalized his two-year Retina Fellowship at South Texas Retina Consultants, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Dr. Romriell is one of the few retinal specialists in the region. He treats many retinal diseases including, but not limited to, diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular edema, macular degeneration, vascular occlusions, retinal detachments and tears, and ROP exams for premature infants.
Dr. Romriell is a loving husband, and father to four children. He regularly enjoys being outdoors and spending time amongst his family. Outside of work he is always seeking adventure, whether it be skiing, boating, or traveling the world.
GREGORY EMFIELD D.O
Gregory Emfield, D.O. is a licensed osteopathic physician and surgeon in comprehensive ophthalmology. He is board certified. He became passionate about ophthalmology while serving an LDS mission abroad in El Salvador when he acted as an interpreter for an eye care medical mission group and was able to experience the profound positive impact it could have on patient’s lives. He remains fluent in the Spanish Language.
Born and raised in Southeast Idaho, Dr. Emfield graduated from Idaho State University, with a B.S. in Zoology and a B.A. in Foreign Language. He then went on to achieve an M.S. in Biology with an emphasis in developmental biology.
Dr. Emfield then decided to pursue a degree in medicine at Western University of Health Sciences in Lebanon, Oregon. He completed a traditional internship at Riverside University Health System (RUHS) and an ophthalmology residency at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) in Colton California.
During his training in Southern California he focused on and specializes in complex cataract surgery, intravitreal injections and laser treatments of medical retina conditions, glaucoma surgeries, strabismus repair, and eye care ranging from premature infants to the elderly. After training, he established a successful ophthalmology practice in Grand Forks, ND until he was invited to return home to Southeast Idaho to practice with Dr. John Fornarotto until his retirement. At that time it was his great privilege to be invited to join the exceptional Idaho Eye and Laser Center team. He loves southeast Idaho and the great people of the area that make it such a wonderful place to live.
Outside of work, Dr. Emfield enjoys spending time with his wife, their four daughters, and their Shar Pei, Zeke. He is an avid mountain biker, rock climber, reef tank hobbyist, and outdoorsman
JAMES RICHARD DAVIS, OD, FAAO
BOARD CERTIFIED OPTOMETRIST
After obtaining his Doctorate Degree from Indiana University in 1992, Dr. Davis worked at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida, where he was eventually promoted to Director of Optometry in the Glaucoma Service.
After four years at Bascom Palmer, in 1995, Dr. Davis moved to Idaho Falls to work as the Clinic Director at the Idaho Eye and Laser Center (IELC). He has remained with IELC since then as they have expanded from Idaho Falls to Pocatello, Rexburg, and Twin Falls.
Dr. Davis was accepted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in 1996, and is Board Certified from the American Board of Optometry.
He has lectured internationally to colleagues and has published numerous articles regarding ocular pathology in various eye care journals over the years.
He has served as President of the Idaho Optometric Physician Association, and is a former Chairman of the State Board of Optometry.
Dr. Davis specializes in pre- and post-surgical care of the eye, treatment of all forms of ocular disease, and has a special interest in glaucoma care. He currently enjoys living in Twin Falls with his wife, Amy.
SHANE L. WYNN, OD
After graduating from Idaho State University with a B.S. in Biology with Honors, Dr. Wynn went on to Pacific University where he graduated with his Doctorate of Optometry.
Dr. Wynn is an essential part of the Idaho Eye and Laser Center and performs clinical evaluations and treatments at all Idaho Eye and Laser Center clinics. He is qualified to diagnose and treat all types of ocular injuries and ocular diseases.
He is versed in clinical refractive surgery pre- and post- operative care for laser vision correction (LASIK) surgery, refractive surgery, cataract surgery, oculoplastic surgery, retinal surgery, corneal transplants, glaucoma surgery, and dry eye disease.
Dr. Wynn has four children with his wife, Kimberly. They enjoy outdoor activities including camping, hiking, riding motorcycles, and having fun-filled barbeques with family and friends.
KURT HEPWORTH, OD
Dr. Kurt Hepworth is a native of Idaho and did his undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University-Idaho. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Missouri-St. Louis College of Optometry where he was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa honor society. After graduation, Dr. Hepworth completed a residency at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he specialized in ocular disease and primary care.
He has particular interest in ocular disease. Dr. Hepworth’s research on ocular disease demonstrates enthusiasm about continually learning and progressing as an eye care provider. As a specialist of eye diseases, he presented his research on “The Treatments and Systemic Associations of Keratoconus” at national and international conferences.
Dr. Hepworth cares for many diverse groups of patients including children, Spanish-speaking patients, legally blind patients, veterans, and patients advanced in age. He is very personable, upbeat, and has a unique ability to relate to the patients he cares for. Dr. Hepworth enjoys volleyball, fishing, rock climbing, and being outdoors. He and his wife, Kanani, are parents of five wonderful sons.
